Operating Systems Windows Linux Mac Os X

operating systems windows Operating Systems Windows Linux Mac Os X

The most commonly-used contemporary desktop OS is Microsoft Windows, with Mac OS X also being well-known. Linux, GNU and the BSD are popular Unix-like systems.

An operating system (OS) is any software that can boot (start up) a computer and manage its functions. Operating systems come in various forms to meet different requirements. An operating system is an interface between user and hardware.

Any desktop or laptop PC that you buy normally comes pre-loaded with Windows XP. Macintosh computers come pre-loaded with OS X. Many corporate servers use the Linux or UNIX operating systems. The operating system (OS) is the first thing loaded onto the computer -- without the operating system, a computer is useless.

Ubuntu is a predominantly desktop-oriented Linux distribution, based on Debian GNU/Linux but with a stronger focus on usability, regular releases, and ease of installation at the expense of platform diversity. Ubuntu is sponsored by Canonical Ltd, owned by South African billionaire entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth.

Ubuntu focuses on usability,[24] including the widespread use of the sudo tool for administrative tasks.[25] The Ubiquity installer[26] allows installing Ubuntu to the hard disk from within the Live CD environment without the need for restarting the computer prior to installation. Ubuntu furthermore emphasises accessibility and internationalization, to reach as many people as possible. As of version 5.04, UTF-8 is the default character encoding. The default appearance of the user interface in the current version is called Human and is characterised by shades of brown and orange.
